    The Ôsaka Prefectural Committee on standardizing of articles for practica use, has intended to enact a new standard on cotton sewing thread.
    Several technical testings for properties of Japanese-made cotton sewing thread have been done for the purpose above mentioned.
    Some of the results of the testings, especially for strength, elongation, evenness, smoothness and dyeing durability are reported in this paper.

    1) An estimation has been made of the viscosity of Konnyaku powder paste, taking 1% solution at 20°C, and it has been found that the variation of viscosity in relation to the time of heating is as follows. The less the time of heating the higher the viscosity and as the time of heating is increased the viscosity gradually decreases.
    2) The viscosity of the preserved Konnyaku powder decreases, as the years of preservation increases, and after four years, the viscosity has been found to decrease by 75% in comparison with the fresh powder.
    3) Regarding the permeability of the above solution, by reading the height of the capillary at intervals of time after dipping the filter paper in the solution, the following relation has been found to exist between h (the hight of cap. rise) and t (time interval)
    logh=logK+mlogt
    (where K and m are constants)
    h=Ktm
    4) The following relation has been found to prevail between the permeability and the time of heating (θ):
    h02-h2=αlogθ
    where
    h:Hight of capillary rise for any θ
    h02:Hight of capillary rise of prepared konnyaku paste (94-95°C)
    α:a Constant
