We determined Hg isotope compositions of Japanese cinnabars by a cold-vapor generation MC-ICP/MS. The determined Hg isotope ratios in relative to Hg standard range between -0.68 to +0.47

00. These isotopic variations might result from combinations of degree of boiling of the hydrothermal fluid and kinetic isotopic fractionations associated with cinnabar precipitation.

In the NW Iran, 20 km south of the Tabriz city, there are some gabbroic and granitic bodies. The field description and stratigraphy evidence clarify that the bodies have intruded into Kahar formation in the late Proterozoic. The intrusion has been considered to occur in Permian without isotope dating. In this study, we have determined the Rb-Sr and Sm-Nd whole-rock isochron ages based on 5 gabbroic rocks and 27 granitic rocks. The two bodies have different ages: the gabbroic rocks were crystallized at around 260 Ma, and granitic bodies formed at 165-170 Ma. This probably suggests that there is no relationship between these two bodies, which has been proposed in the previous study.

For the purpose of applying nitrogen and carbon isotopic ratio to investigate water and nitrogen dynamics in ecosystems,we measured nitrogen and carbon isotopic ratio of larch needle and soil in forest and forest-grassland boundary area at several sites in Mongolia from 2003 to 2008 and 2010.The results showed that delta-
13C and delta-15N increase along the slope,and the difference in delta-15N between larch needle and soil surface layer.These implies difference in nitrogen dynamics among sites.

The Ishikari river system witnessed increased nitrogen loading due to change in precipitation chemistry along with increased urban and agricultural land use proportion in its catchment area during last decades. The spatial variation of sedimentary denitrification rate in lower Ishikari river system and its role in removing dissolved nitrate load from river system was studied. Water and sediment samples were collected from main river channel, major tributaries. Experimental results suggest that The sedimentary denitrification rate in Ishikari river system did not showed significant increase on addition of labile carbon indicating that sediment samples had enough carbon to support denitrification process in river system. The nitrate loss rate due to denitrification within the lower Ishikari system ranged from 0.01 to 14.9% d‹SUP›-1/SUP› with an annual mean of 5% d‹SUP›-1/SUP› in main Ishikari river channel.

Stable isotopic composition of water can be used as tracer and powerful tool for investigation of water cycle (i.e. source of water vapor, process of precipitation, resource of river water and ground water and route of flow). We are planning to make Hokkaido water isotope map that contributes for better understanding of water cycle. We observed stable isotopes of precipitation, river water and ground water at Sapporo, Tomakomai, Teshio and Memuro in Hokkaido to know the temporal variations which are essential to complete Hokkaido water isotope map. In Tomakomai, we also observed isotope ratios of soil water to investigate the mechanism to form run off water to a stream in a small catchment. In the basin of Teshio river, tributaries including many small catchment, water samples were taken for isotope analysis.
