Revision of the Course of Study in 2017 created a need to revise lesson plans for units in the Physical Fitness domain. Accordingly, plans were designed for exercise-specific units and implemented at a junior high school in Tokyo. One of the main challenges being faced by the schools is the lack of teaching materials for fitness exercises; an attempt was made to develop video-based materials for this purpose. The following findings were obtained: (1) high values emerged in formative class evaluations conducted to assess class outcomes; (2) in the questionnaire, students stated opinions such as experiencing a “sense of accomplishment” in trying and succeeding to perform “movements I had never done before”. In an interview, the class teacher reported that video-based teaching materials were very effective for junior high school educators who are experiencing problems in the Physical Fitness domain. The findings indicated that the development of lessons for exercise-specific units were an effective way to plan for Physical Fitness classes.

One aim of this study was to devise and implement exercise programs for 14 beginners to the Cyr wheel to learn spinning in a total of 5 sessions (30 minutes each). Another aim of this study was to examine participants’ reflections on those exercise programs and to examine changes in the number of spins and posture during rotations in order to obtain basic knowledge to create a safe, efficient, and enjoyable exercise program for Cyr wheel beginners. One main result of this study was that participants gained a sense of accomplishment when the devised exercise program involved "manipulation" or "balance" rather than "spinning". Participants did not feel an excessive burden from apparatus use and balance, but they enjoyed rotating more. The number of spins and rotation time, i.e., the second aim of this study, increased significantly because the exercise program was conducted in a total of 5 sessions. In addition, the apparatus distance and participants’ shoulder angle increased significantly, and their knee angle decreased drastically.

The aim of this study is to devise/coach an exercise program which can be implemented comfortably in daily life in order to develop a college-education coursework to heighten outside-school-hour activities, and in addition, to make clear that what physical exercise whose continuity in daily life is highly acceptable. We devised exercise contents which have a high affinity to daily-life activities and low in physical burden, and checked the easiness of continuing them by choosing students who take the course of physical education as part of the liberal arts in college as the test target. The results of Web questionnaire were as follows: (1) Many of the devised contents were affirmatively assessed from all of the view points of degree of interest/comfort, level of difficulty, degree of desire to implement them. (2) 29 % of the students continued the exercise contents for more than a week after the end of the course period. The stretching-oriented exercise contents were more favorably accepted than the training-oriented exercise contents. (3) The reasons for the students’ continuation of the exercise were mostly its easiness and light-heartedness. From the above result, it was suggested that the exercise contents devised in this study were affirmatively assessed and that ‘stretching-oriented exercise which can be performed easily with a light heart’ is highly acceptable in continuing in daily life.
