In order to clarify the habitat features under high extinction pressures, locally extinct and endangered plants were quantitatively analyzed for their risk ranks and habitats by using regional red lists published recently. Although many of the endangered species are listed from forest habitats, the proportion of the species ranked 'extinction' and 'highly endangered' (high rank ratio) shows high value in wetland or grassland habitats and low value in forest and rocky habitats. The plants growing in paddy fields, irrigation ponds or creeks for agriculture, and grasslands for producing roof materials were revealed to be under higher extinction pressure. Persistence of such endangered plants are considered to depend on the habitats which have been maintained by appropriate human activities or disturbances.
