In a series of study on development of discriminating agents for single and double strand DNA (ss-DNA and ds-DNA, respectively) based on di-pyrene modified cyclodexytrins (CyDs), compound 1 which was modified at A, D of glycopyranose of α-CyD, compound 2 which was modified at A, B of glycopyranose of β-CyD, and compound 3 which was modified at A, D of glycopyranose of γ-CyD, when consisting glucopyranose units of α-, β- and γ-CyDs are lettered from A to F, from A to G and from A to H, respectively, are able to discriminate with ss- and ds-DNA. Discriminating system is realized as behavior of their fluorescent emission intensity in addition of single and double strand DNA

This paper focuses on information leaks caused by the human mistake of forgetting to delete copied files from portable storage media. We propose a processing method that obtains relevant logs and detects remaining files in order to determine the remaining files that contain copied data, even if only a part of the data in the file on the portable storage medium has been copied. The proposed processing method for obtaining the relevant logs monitors the state of both clipboard and directory and creates logs. Information recorded in a log includes the type of change that occurred in a directory, the date of the recording, and the name and path of the changed file on a personal computer. The proposed processing method for detecting the remaining files comprises three steps. First, a log entry for the clipboard is searched sequentially, starting at the head of the log file. Next, the entry indicating the path and name of the file containing the copied data is identified. Finally, it is ascertained that files containing copied data remain if an entry indicating the deletion of such files is not found. Various file operations were tested on Microsoft Windows XP and Windows 7. Our experimental results suggest that the copy operation performed on a portion of data was distinguished by using the change logs of the clipboard and the directories. The remaining files that contained copied data were correctly detected.

Propagation of Lamb wave in an aluminum plate having a notch type defect is observed. Lamb waves passing through the aluminum plate were analyzed by two-dimensional Fourier transform (2D-FFT) to discriminate the modes and their mode conversions. A0-mode Lamb waves which is transmitted into aluminum plate is discriminated using the 2D-FFT charts. The mode conversion from A0 to S0 and A1-mode waves by the notch type defect is clearly detected in the reflected and the transmitted waves. The suggestive result that the ratio of S0 or A1 to A0 indicates the degree of damage has been described. Possibility of a Lamb wave method for detecting defect such as ablation, wear and wall reduction is also referred.

In designing pipeline systems for commercial slurries, it is essential to accurately determine the hydraulic gradient at transport velocities. It is crucial to note that the slurries are conveyed as a mixture of multi-sized solids and water. Although many researchers have proposed correlations for the prediction of hydraulic gradient, most have been developed for slurries with uniform sized particles of solids.
By considering two different transport conditions of a mixed-sized slurry, innovated models were proposed and then verified with experimental data. The data was also analysed with the Wasp method and the conventional method by Condolios-Chapus.
Measurements of hydraulic gradient, solids concentration, and flow velocity in a 1-inch pipeline were made in this study. Predictions with the innovated models could be correlated with the data including experimental results from large scale pipelines, in spite of discrepancies at unstable flow regimes.

Hybrid polymers consisted of β-cyclodextrin and diatomite were made in order to examine a metal extraction capability, where the weight mixture ratio of β-cyclodextrin and diatomite were changed from 1:0.5 to 1:5. It was recognized that polymer A obtained from mixing ratio of 1:1 shows highly extraction capability to platinum ion (Pt) with almost 80% extraction ability. On the other hand, polymer, which was made from mixing ratio of 1:5 of β-cyclodextrin and diatomite shows lower capability to Pt with 10%. Diatomite shows only 1.3% extraction ability to Pt, otherwise β-cyclodextrin polymer shows almost 20% extraction capability to Pt.
