IT （Information Technology） has been put to practical use in all fields, and in the agricultural sector, various IT-based new technologies are being implemented, as exemplified by the term smart agriculture. In order to advance smart agriculture, it is important to link farmland parcels information （Polygons of Land Parcels） with IT. Polygons of Land Parcels were developed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries as population information for a survey of arable land area, but was later released as open data and is now used for a variety of purposes.

The nuclear accident at Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant brought significant disruption to society, especially in Fukushima Prefecture. The causes were inadequate tsunami countermeasures and insufficient severe accident preparedness. TEPCO repeatedly conducts all-employee training to pass on the lessons learned. Establishing a safety culture requires each organization member to recognize these lessons personally, continuously enhance safety awareness, and maintain a constant attitude of self-questioning for safety even in peacetime.
