[Purpose] This study aims to clarify the current conditions and challenges in the implementation of interprofessional education (IPE) in schools of nursing before the designated rules are revised.
[Method] A questionnaire survey was conducted about IPE implementation and its contents on 1284 schools of nursing Japan. Descriptive statistics on survey items were calculated, and free descriptions were categorized based on similarity of contents.
[Results] IPE was found to be implemented in 13.5% of the schools of nursing, of which 58.7% were universities and 5.7% were vocational schools. Problems in implementation of IPE involved organizational management, curriculum management, course registration, and faculty development.
[Conclusion] Since only 13.5% of schools of nursing implemented IPE. It is important to use the IPE guidelines and various trainings in preparation for the future revision of the designated rules.
