This report describes the wind measurement by remote sensing systems, such as a radar, a dopprar sodar and a wind profiler. The physical principle of wind measurement for these instruments is the Doppler Effect. The characteristics of each instrument and the method of measurement are discussed and some examples of measurement in the field are presented.
The authors et al. have developed a measurement system which can analyze meteorological data transmitted to E-mail servers from several observation sites. This measurement system is effective for observations made at remote places due to the utilization of the Internet. It also has an advantage in that the data is sent over the Internet in real time. This paper gives an outline of this system and describes observation examples obtained through its use.
Several ideas and devices have been developed for a system which can take an accurate measurement of the response displacement of a transmission tower in severe weather conditions such as strong winds. The response displacement of a tower 200m high is discussed using the data measured by the system. A lot of features of the response displacement in comparison with the acceleration record are clarified.
