At the JAXA Tsukuba Space Centre Rocket Plaza, the paved surface on which the solar system was represented had become dilapidated and difficult to read. Therefore, in 2023, the central part of the plaza, from the sun to Mars, was replaced with a circular tile and interlocking blocks. The tile was engraved with the words 'SOLAR SYSTEM' and reduced scale, and fitted inside with a square tile made by transferring the JAXA logo as an AR marker. For the orbit from Mercury to Mars, a row of white blocks was laid, and for the orbit from Jupiter to Neptune, the existing blocks were painted white and the corresponding planetary symbol tacks were driven into each. Visitors who saw the white lines, symbol tacks and letters on the tile talked about whether the white lines were the orbits of the planets and identified the names of the planets. Many visitors also enjoyed AR videos of each planet orbiting on the white line of the real plaza through mobile devices such as smartphones. From the above, it can be said that the plaza has been revitalized in a new way, making use of the existing landscape resources, including Mt Tsukuba, as a facility where visitors can recognize the representation of the solar system in the pavement and can imagine the world of the solar system in an exciting way.

This report discusses the results of a survey on homecoming cherry blossoms in Adachi Ward, Tokyo, conducted by the nonprofit organization Arakawa Gakkai since from 2021 to 2024 (the survey is still ongoing). The homecoming cherry blossom refers to cherry trees that originated on the banks of the Arakawa River in Adachi-Ward and were migrated to the United States. Their descendants were then brought back from the United States and planted in Japan. Chapter 1 provides a brief description of homecoming cherry blossoms and the background of our survey. Chapter 2 describes how cherry trees planted on the banks of the Arakawa River were transferred to the United States and brought back to Adachi Ward. Chapter 3 describes the current status of homecoming cherry blossoms planted in all elementary and junior high schools in Adachi Ward, Japan—specifically, the number of blossoms planted there. Chapter 4 describes the results of interviews with school officials and teachers regarding the use of homecoming cherry blossoms. The findings described in this report are useful for future academic research, as the blossoms are a unique local resource in Adachi Ward and should be preserved for future generations.

This report deals with whole parks in Kadoma city, Osaka, densely inhabited district, that has 166 parks including urban small parks less than 1,000m2 such as play-lot and parks developed by housing development in rapid economic growth period. We draw up the plan about pilot plan and policy of parks’ abolition, aggregation, and reorganization on whole parks in this city. For drawing up this plan, we conduct as follows : 1)investigating equipment and residents’ use for 4 days to detect problems on aging equipment and parks without many people. 2)questionnaire, residents’ workshop at each region and pilot program to take account of residents’ needs. 3)discussion in exploratory committee with academic researchers and others.

Located in Kyoto City’s Ukyo Ward, Shōsei-en Garden is a nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty that belongs to the precincts of Higashi Honganji Temple. Its management thus far has been based on the garden’s history, but because it is an urban green space, we have redesigned our management concept by focusing on the value it has as an ecological refugia. Specifically, we are striving to recreate the scenery of the natural habitats of elements such as black pines and Japanese maples. We look upon the ongoings of the garden’s plants and animals and the Buddhist concept of “life, aging, illness and death” as forms of Jōdo Shinshū Buddhism’s teaching of “co-resonant life” making up part of the garden’s scenery. To give the future a garden that is even more alluring, we continue to balance “permanence and fashionability” as an effort toward passing down cultural properties to later generations.

The purpose of this research was to obtain knowledge for applying botanical light technology to urban greening plants as urban green infrastructure, with a view to social implementation. The results of this study showed that voltage values were higher in areas with plants than in control areas (soil only), and that voltage values differed depending on the type of urban greening plants (tall trees, shrubs, ground cover, deciduous and evergreen) depending on the season throughout the year. It was revealed that evergreen plants such as tall trees, shrubs, and ground cover generate a lot of electricity, and that the amount of voltage generated by Ophiopogon japonicus Ker. f. nanus fort. is particularly high. In addition, it has become clear that the power generation produced by botanical lights is affected by soil temperature and soil moisture content. We found that plants make power generation more sustainable, confirming the usefulness of plants. In the future, we hope that the results of this research will help in the practical application of botanical lights and the creation of value in urban greening, such as a power source during disasters in parks and green spaces, and as green displays for indoor greening.

The purpose of this technical report is to clarify the morphology of the taproot of coffee seedlings and the distribution of the root system. The survey targets were two coffee farms located in a mountainous area far from the coast in northern Okinawa Prefecture. The area was surrounded by windbreaks, windbreak fences, and forests, and more than ten years had passed since they were planted. Then researchers collected the seedlings, examined their taproot morphology, and after nurturing them, investigated the distribution of their root systems. As a result, it was shown that the existence rate of seedlings with straight taproots was about 20-38%, that the morphology of the taproot did not change after nurturing, and that the elongation rate of the taproot was about 130% per year. And compared to before nurturing, the distribution of fine roots expanded laterally and in depth. The maximum width was 6 cm in diameter at a depth of 2 to 3 cm, and the depth was about 18 cm.Furthermore, the distribution of fine roots before and after growth showed that many fine roots existed in shallow areas.

The purpose of this technical report is to clarify the damage status of coffee trees, the factors that cause damage, and the factors that suppress damage by Typhoon No. 6, and to present countermeasures against the typhoon. The research target is a coffee farm located on flatland in the northern region of Okinawa Prefecture, which has been planted for more than 10 years, mainly using windbreaks.Researchers went to coffee farms, conducted interviews with farm owners, and conducted field surveys. As a result of the verification, we were able to show the following three points as typhoon countermeasures for coffee farms. The first point is to plant windbreak forests and fences. It is important to narrow down the farmland surrounded by them and plant them densely on all sides. The second point is to consider soil hardness. It is necessary to improve the soil hardness so that the main roots and lateral roots can extend further. The third point is appropriate tree size and management. It is important to manage the trees by raising the height of the trees higher than the planting spacing, and by pruning to allow wind to pass through.
