This study aimed to compare and verify the effects of different personal protective equipment (PPE) masks on the quality of chest compressions and vital signs in rescuers.

　Background：Online Basic Life Support (BLS) courses for university students areconsidered to be effective for BLS education; however, no related studies havebeen conducted in Japan to date. Objective：To clarifythe educational effects of online BLS courses for university students. Methods：A questionnaire was administered to 49 students before, after, andone month after completion of an online BLS course. Results：After the course, the number of correct answers for speed of chestcompressions and recognition of two or more AED locations on campus increasedsignificantly. Similarly, the mean number of students who answered that theycould perform BLS when a person collapsed in front of them and the mean oftheir confidence in performing BLS increased significantly. Conclusion：Online BLS courses for university students are effective inequipping students with BLS knowledge and awareness.

“Cannot-Intubate,Cannot-Ventilate” (CICV) in patients with difficult surgical airways is amedical emergency. In this report, we detail a case of CICV complicated byhemorrhage in a patient with challenging surgical airway management, whichrequired multidisciplinary collaboration for successful resolution. A68-year-old female individual underwent emergency airway management forsuffocation caused by bilateral paralysis of the vocal cords. As intubation wasdeemed impossible, tracheostomy was performed initially, but was complicated bybleeding. Subsequently, successful nasal intubation was performed, followed bytracheotomy in the operating room. Moreover, postoperative bleeding was managedthrough collaborative efforts with other departments. When faced withdifficulties in invasive airway management, reconsideration of the feasibilityof noninvasive methods is necessary. Furthermore, critical airway emergenciesnecessitate a team approach and routine training.

我々は2021年に，日本救急医学会中部地方会誌に「病院救急救命士は病院内でどのような役割を担えるのか：福井県内初の試み・福井厚生病院」を報告した1)。本稿では，先の報告後の1年間で，福井厚生病院所属の救急救命士（以下「当院救急救命士」）が取り組んだ具体的な業務内容について紹介する。

　医療法人厚生会　福井厚生病院（以下「当院」）では，2021年4月に病院救急救命士を2名採用した。当院としても初めてであり，福井県内でも初の試みであった。一人は42歳男性で，元県内消防機関に所属しすべての特定行為実施可能な救急救命士，もう一人は22歳男性で，大学の救急救命士養成課程卒業後に県内消防機関に１年勤務後に当院入職し，気管挿管以外の特定行為が可能な救急救命士である。

　当院は199床の中規模総合病院で，一般病棟74床，地域包括ケア病棟50床，精神科病棟41床，回復期リハビリ病棟34床より構成される。一方，救命救急センターには指定されておらず，救急部（救急総合診療科常勤医師4名），病院救急車1台を有する，二次救急医療施設および後方支援病院としての機能を持つ。
