Up to present the locality of this rare species has been limited only in Honshu, but a male individual of the bat was caught at Hakozaki, Fukuoka City in Kyushu, on September 16, 1955. This bat is still kept in captivity fed with the larvae of Tenebrio molitor (mealworms) . Some habits observed in captivity were described. The measurements of this animal are given in the table.

Notes on the Fur Seal, Porpoises and Whales recorded by the author during the Fisheries Agency's 1954-Fur Seal Research, June to July, made in the waters from Japan to the western Bering Sea, are given.
Only the occasional and probably late migrants of the Fur Seal (30 seen, 10 obtained) were encountered ; few young animals were still in the Japanese waters in July. Those found in the Attu waters would belonged to the Pribilof herd. The Dall's porpoise (none in the Bering Sea) and the Sperm Whale were often, and the Killer Whale was occasionally seen, while the Finner Whale and Striped Porpoise were restricted to the northern and southen (warm current) waters respectively. The True's Porpoise made mixed groups with the Dall's off Japan (cf. Misc. Rep. Yamash. Mus., No. 6) .

Two large youngs and five small ones of Crocidura dsinezumi chisai Thomas were found in a same nest at Chichibu, Saitama Pref., Central Honshu, Japan, in Sept 28, 1955. The large ones are still blind but completely covered by short blackish brown hairs of about 1 mm long, with long tail and hind foot as shown in the table. On the other hand, the small ones are completely naked and pinkish, with short tail and hind foot. They are estimated 8 to 11 days old for the former group and about 3 days old for the latter. So they can't be a same litter but probably belong to different ones from different females.

Three specimens of Sorex minutus gracillimus Thomas, an adult male from Rishiri Island, Hokkaido, which was new to the Island, and two from Sakhalin, were studied. From these specimens and the data given by N. Kuroda, Goodwin etc., gracillimus may be defined as follows : body and skull as large as median sized typical race (tables 1, 2), but distinguished from the latter by slightly narrower facial region (table 3) and distinct tricolored pattern of the adult summer pelage, rather similar to the adult winter pelage of S. araneus.
