Simulators for education and training have been used in various industries in recent years. Also in the shipping industry, various types of engine simulators are used for improving knowledge and skill of engineers. However, no matter how high-performance simulators are adopted, unless the instructor can conduct training properly, it is not possible to provide effective training. In this paper, we proposed standardized engine simulators training guideline for instructors on the basis of IMO model course for training instructors and maintaining the quality of training. As a result of analysis by questionnaire and interview, the effectiveness of this training guide was confirmed.
In general, twin-screw vessel is able to do pinwheeling by reversing main engine each other. According to the model experiment result of preconstruction, NIPPON MARU also can turn short radius by reversing main engine each other. However, the method had not been verified through full-scale experimental test. According to this test, NIPPON MARU is able to turn in short radius by using propeller reversing each other. And in this case, it needs that astern thrust is bigger than forward thrust. (For example: one engine is slow ahead, another one is half astern engine. ) And rudder angle has no effect on the turning rdius.
