When abandon ship station is ordered, the crew and passengers used to escape from the ship as quickly as possible. In this study, we discuss points to keep in mind when using a general-purpose shipboard evacuation simulation software to predict their evacuation behavior and show the matters for rapid evacuation on board.
The obtained results are summarized as follows;
(1) There is no significant difference in the time required to move from various locations on the ship to the designated assembly station with respect to walking speed.
(2) Most of the time required for evacuation in spent for the preparation of carrying out personal equipment in a cabin, roll call and check at an assembly station.
(3) Even if the shortest route is taken to the designated assembly station, it is not lead to a time reduction to move to the station. Saying it differently, evacuation by appointed routes is effective.
