A half century ago, the first cause of death of Japanese people was the stroke. The progress of the medicine has made a lot of cases saved, so its ranking in death causes became the fourth, now. This fact means the increase of number of patients who have to live with residual symptoms such as the paresis during the rest of their lives. In Japan, the rehabilitation in hospitals usually ends at 6 months after the onset. The music therapy will be able to contribute to the maintenance and improvement of physical and psychological function during the chronic phase, especially when the patients live in their home. The training using musical instruments has the advantage that the results of movements can be simultaneously feedbacked as sounds, so the patient can know whether they could perform the movements correctly as they intended. In this review, I explain the music therapy for paresis which is the most popular symptom of stroke, and that for the unilateral spatial neglect which has become frequently reported during this decade.
