This study examined work values and career maturity in a sample of 98 undergraduates at Polytechnic University. New Work Motivation Scale, short form of the Japanese Big-Five Scale and Career Readiness Scale were selected for use in this study. Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann-Whitney U test, correlation analysis, and categorical regression analysis were conducted. We found that “neuroticism” significantly contributed to “social status,” “social contribution,” and “family piety”; while “career readiness” significantly contributed to “self-realization”; and “extraversion” significantly contributed to “rewarding.” There were differences in career maturity between the decided and undecided occupation groups; career maturity was significantly higher in the decided group. Additionally, “self-realization,” “contribution to society,” and “rewarding” were significantly higher in the mature group than in the immature group. It seems reasonable to conclude that promoting career maturity among undergraduates contributes to their job satisfaction once they are employed.

In previous paper, we suggested the booting system for necessary safety check using AR (Augmented Reality) technology. The machine tool and many switches are equipped with AR markers, and the workers have the USB camera on head side. Therefore, the switches are measured correctly, and the workers can check the safety using USB camera and AR technology. However, we have not considered the verification of the operating time problem. Human see the dangerous incident or image, if they recognize the dangerous condition. Therefore, they are afraid of the dangerous and practice the safety work. In this paper, booting system for necessary safety check is suggested using AR and CG on the operating time. It shows the dangerous condition and region virtually, and makes the machine stopped when it recognizes the dangerous condition. In addition, the worker feels the pseudo-haptics and avoid from the dangerous CG (source).

This paper studies visual evaluation of office spaces for vocational trainers by evaluation grid method. Previous paper shows visual quality of office spaces for university students without experiences in an office space by presenting pictures of an existing office room. This study surveys cognitive structures of office spaces with inquiries and interviews for 22 vocational trainers with more than 3 years career. The same inquiries and interviews are carried out for university students as the comparison. As a result, the comparative cognitive structures between vocational trainers and university students are shown to analyze their evaluation structures qualitatively.

The main purposes of this paper are to assess the basic properties of kiln dried moso bamboo(Phyllostachvs heterocycle) under external exposure for a long time and the changing of the surface color. Following conclusions are obtained through some experiments. (1) Cracks have less occurred on the kiln dried moso bamboo compared to the natural dried bamboo. (2) The compressive strength of the kiln dried moso bamboo is 30% higher than that of natural dried bamboo at that time even after 182 days exposure and can be maintained the strength for long periods. (3) The compressive strength(σ) of bamboo with node and without node become as follows; Kiln dried: σwith node ≦ σwithout node, on the other hand Natural dried: σwith node = σ without node (4) The surface of the kiln dried bamboo become clearly coated. The colors of them have changed from green to ocher and have been stable for a long time.

It is occurring that concentrated heavy rain accompanied by global warming. In some places, the precipitation absorbed in the earth becomes the perched water, the level of the unconfined groundwater rises. As a result, flooding is occurring. It is necessary to observe the water level at the borehole in order to sense the rise in the water level of the groundwater level and make it useful for disaster prevention. But it is difficult to observe at multiple points. On the other hand, there are many earthing electrodes of electric facilities in the place where people are active. The value of total earthing resistance depends on the electrical conductivity of the ground. The value of electrical conductivity of the earth greatly changes when groundwater is present. Therefore, it was inspected the theory of the method to estimate a groundwater level in this paper.

Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is one of the population-based metaheuristics. The algorithm is simple yet the convergence is rather fast. The parameter values have a large influence on the search performance. Many studies on PSO parameter tuning have been conducted so far. This paper proposes determining parameters separately in each stage into which the iterative process is divided, using Design of Experiments (DoE) methodology. The situation of the swarm is considered to be changing as the process proceeds. Hence, a certain effect is expected with this method. The exploration with the proposed method is performed on four test functions. Additionally the exploration with three other methods is also conducted for comparison. The proposed method yields good results. This study also reveals that the search performance improves when parameters, such as inertia weight, increase as the process proceeds.

Style of education has changed over time. Thus, educators are constantly required to meet the progressing demands and provide appropriate guidance, which is not an easy task. Especially, career guidance becomes a major obstacle for many educators. For many high school students, the guidance from teachers becomes crucial as they approach the transition to adulthood. In addition, regardless of continuing to receive education or choosing employment after graduation, the high school students need to take their time to evaluate career options and determine their future career paths. For educators, it is important for them to teach their students “will to live”. Recently, an emphasis is placed on career education in which students learn about fundamental abilities and attitudes to function in a society. In this paper, the history and transition of vocational guidance and career advise are explained. Subsequently, development and purpose of career education are described

I carried out additional training for job seekers about architecture to enhance their teamwork skills. Building company request for a recruiter the ability of not only skills and techniques but also attitude for working together. I used Kolb's experiential learning theory in order to enhance their teamwork skills. I began the training from abstract conceptualization of the teamwork skills. I considered a method to provide support for make the ability effectively to use skill that the effect has been observed in the practice of the work. When I train up students' teamwork skills, I have trained team working method of “HORM”. After training up, students’ skills were enhanced. I found out this improvement point is that the skill of cooperate each other should train at same time with the skill to lead others.

This paper reports teaching materials of C-programming for first-grade students of Polytechnic University of Japan. Our developed materials consist of 1) the programming software part, 2) a textbook for students, and 3) Moodle contents. The part 1) consists of the free version Microsoft Visual Studio, the free 3D engine irrlicht, and sample C source files which denote an RPG(role playing game)-like 3D visual world. In that world, a main character can act only by C-program codes typed by students, and some items such as a shotgun and a robot, an evil boss character, and events related to them are prepared. This means that students can check the correctness of their own programs by observing the acts and events. These characteristics in the part 1) gives some intrinsic motivations to students. The effectiveness of our developed materials are evaluated in classroom practices.
