    The Tone River has leaved natural levees and back marshes by changed course on a large scale in the Saitama Plains. In this research, the former course of the Tone Rivers were inferred by overlaying processing positional distribution chart of temple and shrines on a visualization image of linear geographic feature on a Saitama Plains. In addition, meandering of the river courses before modern time was examined based on the dates that temple and shrines were established on the Saitama Plains.

    The solar energy is stored into soil surrounding energy piles, using dissipation pipes embedded in concrete of orthotropic steel deck as solar heat collector in summer. When interval of energy piles is narrow enough so that there is interference among piles (called as effect of a group of piles), stored heat in soil in summer does not dissipate in autumn and can be used for snow-melting in winter. In this paper, the cost-effectiveness of the interval of energy piles, the depth and interval of dissipation pipes, number of the piles, coloring of the pavement and thermal condition of running a pump to store solar energy is estimated by climate data of Fukui City.

    We investigated the potential evaluation of environmental load (greenhouse gas emission (GHGs) and terminal waste disposal) reduction by utilizing resource recycling of industrial waste in Japan. GHGs reduction potential was estimated by deducting GHGs emitted in waste disposal and virgin material production from GHGs emitted in resource recycling. Nearly 11 million ton-CO2 which is equivalent to 0.7% of gross GHGs emission in Japan was obtained as GHGs reduction potential in the year of 2000. On the other hand, terminal waste disposal reduction potential was found to be nearly 4.4 million ton which is equivalent to 13% of gross terminal waste disposal in Japan.

    It is examined about the new ground vibration isolation wall which a scrap tire was used for the ground vibration problem as by this paper. In other words, a full-sized isolation wall was laid about the compression type isolation wall which the tire of the original form was used for, and a tire and which was arranged in actual field, excitation experiment which an actual source of vibration was presumed was enforced, and effect on a decrease in vibration by this isolation wall was observed. Effect on a decrease of 5dB-12dB was confirmed in the original form type isolation wall as that result. Moreover, the examination related to effect on a spring of tire gum in the value evaluated from the wave penetration theory was added, and compared with experiment value as an appraisal method of effect on a decrease in vibration by the isolation wall. It was proved that it was based on effect on compounding of two effect from almost reproducing found value by this appraisal method with effect on a decrease in vibration by the isolation wall of the proposal.

    The field experiments of water sprinkling on the pavement were performed in order to evaluate the effect for mitigating the urban heat island phenomena in summer days. The authors developed a 3-D measurement system which consists of two vertical planes with 6m high and 16m wide, and has networks of 102 thermistors distributed spatially for temperature measurements at the ground surface and several heights in atmosphere, in and around the water sprinkled area. In this paper, three experiments operated in 2004, 2005 and 2006 were reported in detail. Results indicated that the ground surface temperatures decrease 5 to 15°C averagely in the water sprinkled area compared with those at the reference points. The decreases of atmospheric temperatures in sprinkled area were approximately up to 1.5°C compared with those in upward of sprinkled area. The subsurface temperature at a depth of 10cm in sprinkled area was estimated to decrease at approximately 10°C in maximum, and kept lower until next morning, compared with that at reference point.

    This paper describes the effects of the Kinki Expressway (Tsuruga Line, Maizuru Obama West interval) construction on the neighboring wildlife environment. It also presents an evaluation of the various countermeasures and monitoring techniques that were taken in order to reduce harm against a community of raptors. From the initial stages of the project, preservation measures for the raptors were taken into account, and a special committee was formed in order to examine the construction's effects. Raptor preservation in an expressway neighborhood is rare in Japan, but this project proved that with early planning and consideration for the raptors, construction could performed efficiently, and without having to make large-scale construction-method or structural changes to the highway.
