Purulent pericarditis in children is a life-threatening disease that requires early diagnosis and immediate intervention. This cardiac emergency is a rare complication of Haemophilus influenzae type b infection among children in the antibiotic era. However, cases of purulent pericarditis are still being reported in Japan. We describe two immunocompetent pediatric cases of Haemophilus influenzae type b purulent pericarditis with pericardial tamponade. And also we provide a review of the literature.
