Calculation and measurements on the characteristics of ion production in a high vacuum cylindrical magnetron were performed. The coincidence between measured and calculated results is fairy good. The magnetron type ionization gauge offers a good stability owing to the space-charge saturation effect. The experimental results indicate a different characteristic from that obtained by Conn and Daglish. In our results, the secondary electrons which are produced accompanying with the gas ionization exhibit a marked effect. It may be considered that this effect is related to the Philips gauge type discharge

Experimental study of an oil ejector pump which has high tolerable backing pressure (110 mm of mercury) is described. The linear relation between a critical backing pressure and a quantity of oil vapor passing through a nozzle to a diffuser is obtained.
“Double critical backing pressure” and “Double throughput” phenomena for higher air discharge is discussed. Maximum throughput appears near a “equivalent pressure” which is intake air pressure equal to vapor jet pressure at nozzle outlet. And the pumping speed per unit area of annular clearance between the nozzle outlet and diffuser is about constant at this “equivalent pressure” in our results.

Purification of the commercial plasticizer D. O. S. was carried out on the rate of distillation, 4050 cc/hour at 190200°C, with the continuous high-vacuum distillation apparatus having been described in the preceding report.
Yield was 70%, and the obtainable final vacuum was 1.52.0×10-1mmHg at 180190°C, Then, for the binary mixture of pure D. O. S. and D. O. P. (di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate), the fractionation efficiency of this apparatus on the various distillation conditions were studied.
