This study discusses the empirical research conducted regarding observation of plankton in environmental learning facilities for fifth-grade students at elementary schools. As an ingenious teaching method of plankton observation, we used small containers with many zooplankton as the preparation and the mechanical stage of the microscope when moving slides. Taking note of the environmental burden in environmental learning, we developed an attitude of environmental conservation by recognizing the environmental impact through the introduction of a water pollutant loading ratio. We used the eutrophication phenomena based on understanding the ecosystem and water pollution causes. The teaching method has made it easy to make the preparation and operate the microscope. As a learning effect, transformation was recognized through the understanding of the food chain, cause of water pollution, influence on the human environment and action intention of environmentally conscious behavior. In the psychological process model of environmental conservation attitude formation and environmentally conscious action intention formation, the environmental preservation attitude can be understood in the food chain, and the behavioral intention of the environmentally conscious actions is influenced by the recognition of the cause of water pollution.

The "AI Strategy 2019" calls for all of university and technical college students, regardless of their faculties or departments, to learn mathematical and data science, and AI at an elementary level as sophistication of data science by the fiscal year 2025. In this paper, we consider the issues expected in the introduction and implementation of data science curriculum, based on the concept and purpose of mathematical and data science, the characteristics of big data and the difficulty in utilizing it, and the current state of related education at universities. Especially, we raise issues that should be considered in realizing data science education in faculty of international liberal arts. We also discuss the future developments.

In this research, we obtained permission to use the data published in the "Children's Life and Learning" research project, a joint research project of Institute of Social Science, the University of Tokyo and Benesse Educational Research Institute and conducted a secondary analysis of this data. The purpose of this research is to explore when high school students are conscious of the occupation they want to have in the future, and what the constituent factors are. So far, a relatively large number of studies have been published on the clarity of career choice among university students, but little attention has been paid to high school students, especially the timing of their recognition and the factors behind it. By focusing on this, this research was analyzed when high school students' career choices begin to form, and to what extent the constituent factors have an effect, though, it was not possible to obtain sufficient results to elucidate this.

This study examines recent policy trends and research on education and human resource development and proposes two frameworks for career education in primary and secondary education. The first framework classi-fies career education into two categories; activities that nurture key competencies and activities for high school subjects (the Two-lined Structure). The second framework comprises abilities and competencies related to career education and human resource development. I have discussed the potential uses of these frameworks in teacher training courses.

The purpose of this paper is to report the results of a survey on academic ICT literacy (namely computer literacy and digital literacy) concerning undergraduate students at a Japanese university for the humanities. At the same time, we also mention the new digital divide due to the shift away from personal computers. The results of the computer literacy survey were generally consistent with previous results. In addition, the differences in ICT literacy were generally confirmed by personal attributes and personal computer proficiency. It was also suggested that the longer the computer use time, the higher the computer proficiency. Furthermore, it was suggested from this survey that students with low proficiency in personal computers are required to provide information education to improve their academic ICT literacy, and some new measures against the digital divide are also necessary.

  • ~ From Grammar-Translation Method to Classes Created with Students: a Report on Teaching Practice at Kaichi Nihonbashi Gakuen ~

In teaching reading skill at junior high and high schools, the current teaching style has changed dramatically with the revision of Course of Study, changes of the times, and the development of ICT. The Grammar-Translation Method has long been the mainstream method of teaching, however, various other instructional methods have been introduced to deepen students' understanding more effectively. In addition to the Grammar-Translation method, reading instruction at my workplace has included task-based grammar instruction, the use of booklets, paragraph-charts and ICT, and the introduction of IB inquiry-based lessons. Looking back on these methods, we believe that it is important to make use of the advantages of each method, making up for the deficiencies with other methods. In addition, in order for students to understand English text more deeply rather than simply memorizing knowledge, it is necessary for them to learn proactively, and in order to have them do it, I feel the need for "classes created with students", which means classes that involve a lot of students in all aspects of the classes. I would like to explore ways students can learn something on their own in the classeroom and ways to stimulate students' intellectual curiosity that will lead to home study, and to foster "independent learners".
