In this study, we examined the educational and safety effects of ski and snowboard training classes as
part of existing physical education programs. Forty students participated in the ski and snowboard
training classes. We distributed an original questionnaire to the 40 students. The findings of the study
can be summarized as follows:
1) Students who chose to ski had usually received prior instruction from their families. On the other
hand, students who chose snowboarding tended to improve by receiving advice from their friends.
2) Students who chose to ski had started to learn the sport by the time they were junior high school
students. On the other hand, the students who chose snowboarding began to learn that sport as high
school or college students.
3) Students who have acquired a teacher's license have a higher awareness of safety.
In 2018, Kanto Gakuen University lost its teaching certificate for Teacher's license courses. This
study demonstrates that increased safety education is needed in ski and snowboard training classes.
