In order to clarify the effect of high-speed turning for micro-parts, we have performed the experiments on turning of carbon steel (drill rod), free machining brass, pure aluminum and copper, using the micro-shaft of maximum rotating speed 20×10^4rpm. On the turning of drill rod surface roughness Ra in feed direction decreased from 300 to 50nm with increasing cutting speed 50 to 250m/min. On the other kinds of materials, Ra improved remarkably with increasing cutting speed. The validity of high-speed-turning at micro-parts production becomes clear from the experiments.
