The mechanism magnifying displacements has beern widely used for fine positioning in such engineering field as semiconductor manufaeturing and STM. The mechanism introduced in this paper consists of elastic hinges and elastic lever. It is very important for designers how to obtain higher value of magnification factor, or the ratio of the output to the input in term of displacement. Due to elastic deformation of both the hinges and lever, engineers can not help estimating lower value of magnification factor than the ideal value. The ideal value can be determined on the assumption that the lever is rigid. In the second chapter, the authors state theoretically the displacement magnification efficiency on the secondary lever, and in the third chapter, they present the magnification efficiency of a complicated machanism, which comprises of a lot of elastic hinges, magnification lever and driving plate.
We developed DLC coating technique on an internal circumferential surface. By using this technique we coated DLC films on the internal circumferential surface of guide bush and improved the sliding-wear resistance. We were able to elogate the life of guide bush of Swiss type automatic lathe.
Basing on the truth that the tympanic temperature reflects hypothalamic temperature, we developed an IR thermometer which can measure the tympanic and external auditory temperature within several seconds. In the system we developed, six adjustable items can be adjusted systematically, and this system has the the composition capable of writing all the adjustmental results in an EEPROM. The blackbody is used for the adjustment and the inspection of this IR thermometer.
We have developed a novel polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) called IRIS^<1)〜3)> with high transparency, high contrast, and low power consumption. IRIS operates in a reverse mode, and is capable of scattering incident light in the ON state. In this paper, we studied some factors which influence the brightness and the driving voltage, and optimized them. We applied IRIS panels to a double layer type combination watch which has both the functions and design of an analog watch as well as a digital watch's merits. The combination watch ("White oN") was put on the market in February, 1997. The "White ON" is a combination watch that has a white digital display that is shown on the surface in front of the analog watch.
We designed and fabricated a piezoelectric micro-motor which has a new structure suited for miniaturization. The prototype piezoelectric micro-motor we fabricated has 2 mm in diameter and 2 mm in height. It consists of a disk-shaped rotor, a stator with several cantilever-shape oscillators with elements made by PZT ceramies. These elerruents are integrated into the prototype piezoelectric micro-motor in a flat configuration. We can drive the motor with the resonance frequency of the oscillator, and confirmed that the prototype piezoelectric micro-motor achieved over 50 to 450 rpm at a low drive vo1tage of 4 to 20 Vpp.
