The author has studied under the recognition that change of rigidity and upper yield strain within a slope is essential to analysis of slope stability, and induced the following two relations mainly on the basis of experiments.
(1) Rigidity is linear to normal stress and cohesion caused by surface tension of absorbed water and capillary water.
(2) Upper yield strain is independent of normal stress.
The author used “sand particles model” and made a hypothesis on the origin of elasticity and plasti city of sand. The hypothesis has made it possible to give a theoretical explanation of elasticity of sand as the result of plastic movements, and to induce the above-mentioned (1), (2) theoretically.
