Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons associated with particulates in Osaka Air were determined by Gas Chromatogrphy. Samples were collected at four sites in Osaka City during the period of June 1968 to February 1969. Concentrations of sixteen polycyclic aromasic hydrocarbons in 59 samples were obtained.
According to the results of the determination, the annual average concentration of sixteen polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons was 370-500μg/1000 m
3 air, 1300-1600 μg/g particulates, and 3, 4-benzpysene was 30-60 μg/1000 m
3 air, 100-180μg/g particulates.
In the urban air, seasonal difference was found in both the amount of polycyclic hydrocarbons and 3, 4-benzpyrene, and their concentrations in winter were about double what they were in summer.
In air pollution due to automobile exheust gas, remarkable annual variation was not found.
The Bap/B [ghi] P and Bap/Cor ratios are as follows:
Urban Air Bap/B [ghi] P=1.52-1.67
Automobile Exhaust Gas Bap/B [ghi] P=1.05
Urban Air Bap/Cor=5.80-6.48
Automobile Exhaust Gas Bap/Cor=3.15
These data are thought to be available as indicators to presume the sources of air pollution.
