LiMn
2O
4 and Li
1.09Mn
2O
4 powders were prepared by spray pyrolysis with aqueous solution of manganese carbonate. The dispersion stability of manganese carbonate was influenced by pH of aqueous solution. The particle characteristics of LiMn
2O
4 and Li
1.09Mn
2O
4 powders were determined by XRD, SEM and BET. SEM photograph showed that LiMn
2O
4 powders had spherical morphology with porous microstructure and consisted of primary particles. XRD revealed that crystal phase of LiMn
2O
4 and Li
1.09Mn
2O
4 powders were good agreement with spinel phase. The dischargeable capacity of LiMn
2O
4 cathode was 125 mAh/g at 1C. The dischargeable capacity of Li
1.09Mn
2O
4 cathode was 107 mAh/g at 1C. The dischargeable capacity of Li
1.09Mn
2O
4 cathode exhibited high cycle stability compared with that of was LiMn
2O
4 cathode.
