The Shikoku Henro is a pilgrimage around eighty eight temples in Shikoku, which is based on the faith of Kobo Daishi (Kukai). Kukai arranged the Pilgrimage route connecting the four Shikoku prefectures, as a “Taizokai-Mandala” of Esoteric Buddhism, a Buddhist training ground, embodying the“ fourfold transformation theory”. The four prefectures represent four dojos: Tokushima Prefecture a dojo of“ religious awakening”, Kochi Prefecture a dojo of“ Discipline”, Ehime Prefecture, one of“ Bodhi”, and finally Kagawa Prefecture a dojo of“ Nirvana”. To participate in the Shikoku pilgrimage is to stay in a non-everyday mode, walking a long time to denature the consciousness, and push up into the holy dimension. The author completed the Shikoku pilgrimage and experienced this for himself between 2008 and 2009. Participants’ experiences are similar to those undergoing the psychotherapy process. For the holy dimension is described with reference to the“ Ego and self axis” of Jung, and the“ Theory of the spectrum of consciousness”of Wilber.
