The Polutezuelo Mine is located in Antofagasta province, Chile, South America.
Geologically, the mine area is composed of porphyritic rocks formed by Mesozoic igneous activities. The ore deposits belong to the porphyry copper type and consist of many veinlets lying in the weak zones of the porphyritic rocks.
Three ore deposits have been discovered so far, all extending in the direction of N 30°W of the country rocks, that is, paralled to the direction of the porphyritic rocks, in sheet form.
As only the upper part of oxidized deposits is being developed at present, the whole shape of the ore deposits has not been clarified yet.
The ore minerals are all secondary oxidized minerals. The alteration of the country rocks, such as propylitization, silicification, and potassium silicification, can be observed.
