Despite the rapid increase in the population of mixed ancestry people in Japan and the growth of narrative in academics there are still a limited number of studies which give voice to this experience. This paper is a narrative of an individual’s creative expression of finding a sense of home through exploring his own and others’ experiences through film. Semi-structured interviews were conducted in 2011 with the film producer and director, Masa Fox at several locations, Kyoto, Honolulu, and Tokyo. The interviews focused on understanding how he produced the film Found in Translation, in which he examines the position of people caught between myths and ideologies of a homogeneous, monoethnic nation and current trends toward a globalized society. The data is presented in a narrative and reflexive form in which the research process is a socially constructed world, with the researcher included in the body of their own research. This is an emerging genre that humanizes the lives of previously marginalized people.
