    As regards Sharp's management crisis, two (2) factors have been mainly pointed out. The first factor is that they (the company) thought rather little of the importance of sales of panels manufactured at Sakai Plant to other assembly manufactures. The other factor is that they transformed Sakai Plant into a type of an industrial complex and invested in the Plant to a fault. In the meantime, their strategies of expanding capital investment themselves, like their sixth, eighth, or tenth-generation investment, including that in Kameyama First and Second Plants, have not been generally viewed so much as a problem.
    The author opines, however, that the cause of the management crisis of a company as large as Sharp may be found in the capital investment strategy itself, besides the aspect of rather poor management of Sakai Plant. Based on such problem consciousness, the paper conducted verification of the expansive capital investment strategy that Sharp had been pursuing.
    As a result, it was found that while the scale of the capital investment in Kameyama First Plant was by and large conforming to the then market environment and its production capacity was considered to be appropriate, the scale of the investment in, and thus, the realized production capacity of Kameyama Second Plant and that of Sakai Plant was judged to be quite excessive, particularly in light of the market volume for the targeted size-segments of liquid crystal panels. And even for cases where the segment for smaller sizes is included in the consideration, the possibility of excessive capacity could not be wiped out, when taking into account Sharp's disadvantageous situation in terms of production costs for their panels against those made in Korea and in Taiwan. After all, Sharp's expansive, anticipatory capital investment strategy is considered to have become another cause for their today's management crisis.
    Furthermore, Sharp's such capital investment strategy was thought to be related to their product-oriented-type management philosophy. That is to say, a management philosophy assuming that excellent product will generate demand resulted in forming Sharp's capital investment strategy where the capital investment for each generation should precede that by other companies. However, due to production engineering features and in order to appeal larger screen sizes of liquid crystal panels to consumers, the focus of the capital investment had to be placed on the increase in quantity. Consequently, a situation where excessive production capacity occurred seems to have been created.

    To prepare for terrorist and/or criminal attacks using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), we developed a Galvano Camera System. This system, which detects suspicious UAVs, is based on the high-speed and precise positioning technology of galvanometer scanners. The proposed system consists of galvanometer scanners, a zoom lens, a CMOS camera, an imaging processor, and a monitor. It is used with other position measurement sensors such as RADAR. The system changes the deflection angles of the galvano-mirrors, which are attached to the tip of the swaying shaft based on the location of the target provided by other sensors. Three targets are observed using proposed imaging process and changing angular process, alternately, to acquire multiple images that include the targets. The imaging processor makes three movies of each target, the monitor divides the screen, and displays these three movies on the same screen. The proposed system can simultaneously observe multiple moving objects, using the high response feature of the galvanometer scanners, and display objects on a single monitor. In addition, we have proved the effectiveness of the system through field tests.

    Intravascular surgery for basilar artery aneurysm is a remarkably recent method of therapy. A very important point in this procedure is continuous determination of the patient's neurological state through electroencephalographic monitoring using a compressed spectral array (EEG CSA) and through auditory brainstem evoked respones (ABR) and high quality intraoperative angiograms obtained with a digital subtraction unit (DSA).
    Case: A 64-year-old female suffered subarachnoid hemorrhage from a basilar tip aneurysm (4×5×9mm). Her neurological state at admission was Hunt & Kosnik grade V. Conservative therapy was applied and a ventriculo-peritoneal shunt was performed. Her neurological state had improved to grade IV six months later. One year after onset intravascular surgery was indicated, as complications had arisen.
    [Operative procedure]: The DSA consists of a portable C-arm fluoroscope, low-noise camera, two video monitors, an image-processing system, and a hard disk storage system. EEG CSA and ABR were useful neurophysical monitoring methods. The aneurysm was occluded with a Hieshima detachable balloon catheter through the femoral approach. The balloon also occluded the posterior cerebral artery and there was a immediate change in EEG CSA and ABR. The DSA soon verified this and the balloon was deflated and repositioned. The balloon was again inflated for 40 minutes and then detached. It again moved slightly and DSA showed the left posterior cerebral artery to be stenosed. Three months after the operation, the patient's neurological state had improved to Hunt & Kosnik grade III. It was concluded that DSA and double monitoring (EEG CSA, ABR) during intravascular surgery are useful in the treatment of basilar aneurysms.

    The fastening method with screw is widely utilized for various types of assembling processes in engineering, architecture and other fields. The purpose of this paper is to clarify the source of competitiveness and competitive advantage in the basic technology industry, analyzing screw industries in Japan.

    There already exist a number of research achievements on industrial history and industrial dynamics in each industry. There are also numerous studies that have focused on competitive advantage and competitive structure of certain nations and regions.

    However, if we take a look at the industries which have been chosen as subjects of academic studies, they are polarized into either assembly industries such as automobiles, motorcycles, electric products and shipbuilding or material industries such as steel and chemicals. There have been relatively few articles which focus on industrial dynamics of intermediate goods. Therefore, I will focus on the industrial dynamics in the intermediate goods in Japan.

    This paper will review the intermediate industry based on the survey data of screwindustries, and then discuss whether the Japanese screw industry is progressing or declining. The examples of development and decline of some of the actual companies in Japan will also be examined in this paper. Through these case studies, I will verify the hypothesis that Japanese screw industries rely on automotive industry. In the conclusion part of this paper, I will clarify the factors that have determined the industry’s development and decline.

    近年、ユーザーイノベーション研究の進展が進み、ユーザーが所属するコミュニティに関する研究はユーザーの属性や貢献動機といった分野の研究蓄積が進んでいる。だが、ユーザーイノベーションのプロセスの研究や企業とユーザーコミュニティの関係性、マネジメントに関する研究は、未だ十分ではない。本研究ではオープンソース・ハードウェアである携帯型放射線測定器の開発事例を通じて、上記の問題を明らかにした。その結果、第1にユーザーイノベーションのプロセスでは、コミュニティでの発言内容と発言タイミングが重要な役割を果たしていることが明らかにされた。第2に、オープンソース・ソフトウェアでのマネジメントで特徴的な「優しい独裁者」という統治システムが、オープンソース・ハードウェアでも採用されていることが確認された。
