The writer studied solfataras of Nasu Sulphur Mine, Tochigi Prefecture. The results of the study that were obtained are as follows:
(1) There exist the two groups of solfataras at this mine, one of which is called “Kita, gawa”, and the other “Mugen”.
(2) During the two months of May and July in 1953, it was observed that the former group possessed a tendency to become weak in the solfataric action, against which the latter to grow strong.
(3) The temperature of solfataras at this mine ranges from 94°c to 380°c.
(4) The total amount of sulphur spurted from all solfataras at this mine is calculated to be about 30, 000 tons/year, against which it produced only 800 tons of surphur in the last year.
(5) The total latent heat of the solfataric gas of this mine reaches to about 6.4×10
9 kcal/day which correspold to the heat of combustion of coal of 1, 000tons/day in amount.
