In this paper, we will focus on the negative aspect of corporate conducts in reconstruction phase of Great East Japan Earthquake (GEJE). Concretely, we aim to clarify the characteristics of corporate scandals about the corporations in disaster areas (CDAs) which develop the business taking root in disaster areas.
First, we review previous studies related to and present research meaning of this paper with ordering the concepts of CDAs and corporate scandal. Second, we summarize the CDAs’ scandals focused on relief and reconstruction phases, and carry out specific analysis based on this summary. The emerging facts are in the following. a) concentration of CDAs’ scandals on particular industries and in relief phase more than reconstruction, b) different characteristics between scandals highly related to GEJE and one not related, c) high ratio of owner-managers’ involvement to scandals and so on. Finally, we present the framework of occurrence of CDAs’ scandals.
