In the survey of pediments near Antofagasta, Chile, the writer found stone-banked terraces. They occur on moderate slope facing to the Pacific Ocean. They have frontal banks less than 20 cm high and treads extending about 2 m back. On slopes steeper than 10 degree, their shapes become to be broken.
The climate of the region is very arid and there is no vegetation. Nevertheless stone-banked terraces develop in this region, because, I suppose, in winter it is almost cloudy along the coast and very cold at night.
