The fracture and creep of high speed aero-plane structures or turbine blades, the residual stress of thermally treated materials and the plastic workability of metals etc. require us to solve the thermal elasto-plastic problems in which we must, strictly speaking, take account of the temperature dependence of plastic properties of metals and alloys. In this paper the author establishes extremum principles of the thermal elasto-plastic problem. These may offer a foundation of the practical analysis and design for such the problems.
The type of iso-thermal tension test with a parametre of temperature in considering ranges, namely, the work-hardening, perfect plasticity or creep gives the type of the theorems. A simple truss is taken as an example of the theorems.
