Fujibayashi Fuzan (藤林普山, 1781–1836), a renowned Rangaku scholar
from the late Edo period, is known for his numerous works in the fields of
medicine and Dutch studies. However, in contrast to the significant impact
of Blankaart’s De Nieuw Hervormde Anatomia on the history of anatomy
in Japan, Fujibayashi’s translation, Blankaart’s Kaibō Zusetsu (蒲朗加児都
解剖図説, Blankaart’s Anatomy Textbook), has received relatively little
attention. This paper investigates two manuscripts preserved at the Medical
Library in the University of Tokyo and the International Research Center
for Japanese Studies, focusing on their bibliographic information and
the terminology used in the translations.
