    This study has its for object to plan both utilization and stabilization of slopes in mountain districts by means of doing terracing work on the slopes. Firstly, from the view of hydrological point, the definition of an effect of terracing work was given here, secondly forms of the slopes were classified into three types (one with no terracing work, another with horizontal terracing work and the third with inclined terracing work) and their values of the effects of terracing works were calculatad accord ingly to the definition, mechanism of movement of surface water and discharge of earth and the mea-ning on forestry conservancy and flood control were examined. The followings were made clear. The value of effect of terracing work in the slope with horizontal terracing work is nearly 0 %, on the other hand the one of it in the slope with inclined terracing work is nearly 13 % about the surface water. Thus the latter is clearly larger than the former. Furthermore as for a discharge of earth and sand there is a tendency of errosion's being made more equal relatively in the slope with inclined terracing work than in the slope with horizontal terracing work, judging from a cumulative curve of the discharge ratio of earth and sand.

    Visibility of steps for stair users is one of important factors which affect the rate of stair accident. In former paper,we reported experimental results about each effect of several important factors on the visibility . But,we could compare those effect data only within the same factor items. In this paper, we made an experiment to grasp effect data of different factor items, and analyzed the data by quantification of first method. Also, we analyzed the data in former paper by the same method. As the result, we became to be able to compare all effect data we grasped.

    Pedestrians are liable to have accidents while descending stairs, because of unsuitable dimensions in the tread and rise. The dimensions of tread and rise are considered to be evaluated by pedestrians themselves. In this paper, the sensory tests for difficulty in descending stairs were applied to evaluate many combinations of tread and rise. The results of sensory tests were quantified by one of the psychometric methods, specifically the method of successive categories. Ten young males (average ages 21.0), ten young females (19.7) and ten male elderly subjects (71.2) assessed 42 combinations of tread and rise in descending stairs. The female group wore 4 types of footwear, differing in the heel height. Dimensions of tread and rise with less difficulty in descending stairs existed in definite combinations, around 29〜30 cm tread and 18 cm rise for lower heels, and around 30 cm tread and 15.5 cm rise for higher heels. Psychological pressures increased as measurements deviated from these combinations of tread and rise. A practical value index is suggested in this paper.

    At the disaster such as earthquake and fire, improving safety of stairs is important on evacuation safety designs of buildings. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between dimensions of stairs and ratings of impression with descending stairs. We carried out questionary survey and experiments with actual size model and building. Results are summarized as follows ; 1) For improving safety of stairs(160-180mm rise), we need to precede the dimension of tread. However, as increasing walking speed, we need to decrease the dimension of rise, 2) Dimensions of stairs 160mm-180mm rise and 270mm-300mm tread are estimated proper for descending stairs. If the stairs are narrower than 270mm tread, the dimension of rise needs to be lower, 3) when each stair is constructed various dimension, the impression for stairs decrease. Especially, a difference between the maximum and minimum value is over 23mm rise or 20mm tread, it gave the subjects some bad impression on descending stairs.

    This study compares the physiological work load between two ascending patterns, single-step (SS) and double-step (DS), when climbing a public staircase at the two different climbing rates, controlled speed (105steps/min) and free speed. The SS pattern involved climbing one step at a time, while the DS pattern involved climbing two steps in a single stride. Thirteen female subjects climbed a typical 7-storey building, giving a total of 168 steps and vertical movement of 27.7 m. The results for perceived exertion (RPE), blood lactate level, oxygen consumption and muscle EMG activity were significantly higher (p < 0.05) with the DS than SS pattern at a controlled speed. The results also showed that the ascending speed, heart rate, blood lactate level, respiratory quotient (RQ) and RPE were significantly higher (p < 0.05) with the DS than SS pattern at a free speed. These results clearly indicate the higher physical workload involved with the DS than SS pattern at both free and controlled speeds.

    It is important to keep security and safety in house living. There are a lot of researches related to in-house security and safety for the elderly but higher quality of “good usability and utility” is required nowadays. A vertical handrail to be installed inside a residential spiral staircase has been proven effective for younger people through subjective assessment and a three dimensional motion analysis using infrared camera by comparison of a conventional handrail and newly developed handrail. After an examination for position of holding a handrail we decided the sufficient length of a vertical handrail. Based on the concept of Universal Design, the vertical handrail installed inside a spiral staircase, in combination with conventional handrails installed outside, has been clarified as easy in use for aged and younger people.

    Stairs are a must for going to other floors. And there are little studies of stairs that distinguish between ascending and descending. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between dimensions of stairs and ratings of impression with walk, and to suggest advisable dimensions of stairs.
    The following conclusions were obtained: 1) subjects can grasp various dimensions of stairs, 2) dimensions of stairs 150mm-170mm rise and 290mm-330mm estimated safety and satisfaction enough, besides feeling comfortably, 3) evaluation for dimensions of rise are different between ascending and descending stairs, 170mm-190mm rise get best evaluation for descending stairs.

    昇降時の動作特性を明らかにする事を目的として,F-SCANを用い足圧中心の移動軌跡を健常人・患者25名に対して測定し,以下の結果を得た。健常人の

    昇降動作での足圧中心の移動軌跡は,前足部から踵方向へ移動後,再び前方へ移動する戻り型(Aタイプ)と,平地歩行と類似したの前方向型(Bタイプ)に大別された。健常人の降段動作での足圧中心の軌跡は全てAタイプで,昇段に比較して左右への変位を認めた(p<0.01)。一方,昇段ではA・Bの両タイプがみられた。患者では,降段動作の障害がより顕著で,機能改善とともに健常人の足圧中心の軌跡波形に近付く傾向が観察された。また,杖は立脚期を安定化させる役割があることが客観的に示された。

    昇降時の動的足圧を測定する事により,降段動作の姿勢制御の複雑さの一端が明らかとなった。

    This study is aiming to compare stair ascent transportation speed and physical burden of evacuation supporters according to the types of stair ascent transportation for vulnerable people experimentally. In this study, we measured heart rate of the supporters to indicate physical burden during the transportation. The subjects of this experiment were male students, age of 18-24. Experimental conditions were the ways of stair transportation and the weight of vulnerable people. The types of stair transportation were giving a piggyback ride, carrying a handy stretcher and carrying a wheelchair. Each experimental trial was video-recorded for measurement of ascent speed and observing supporters movement. As a result, this research proves that the weight of vulnerable people has an impact on the ascent speed and physical burden of supporter and giving a piggyback ride is the fastest in all ways of stair ascent transportation but the physical burden for a supporter is the heaviest.

     The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the attributes of male and female subjects (evacuation supporters), transportation preparation time according to the size of transportation preparation space, and vertical transportation efficiency of stair ascent. For this, this study reenacted transportation situations of vulnerable people using stretchers and measured the transportation preparation time, the transportation speed and vertical transport efficiency of stair ascent transportation. As a result, in case of minimum operating space for transportation preparation, it was found that there was more than one minute of waiting time to start evacuation support actions. In addition, the transportation amount was around 0.02 ~ 0.25 persons/sec, and the transportation amount of the condition 2(condition of starting in a queue) that started transportation in a straight line was higher than the condition 1(condition of starting from scattered points). And the transportation amount of the female transportation team was relatively lower than the male transportation groups.

    This paper describes exciting force models about walking up/down stairs for landing toe first. First part describes a experiment system for measuring live load of one step when walking up/down stairs by using a force plate and a model stairs which are capable of being adjusted the rise and tread part. Second part describes characteristics of waveform shape and maximum value of one step waveform. Final part proposes dynamic load coefficients α1α6 for walking up/down stairs and describes these coefficients are similar to those of walking motion.

    Actual condition of stairs in public space has not been clarified so far. Setting their objective in proposing the public space stairs that the elderly and handicapped people can use in a safer and easier manner, the author conducted surveys in the Osaka-Umeda terminal area, the largest terminal in western Japan. Therefore this paper shows the data of the actual condition and poses the structural and visual problems of the stairs.

    Human factors as for falls on stairs were experimentally analyzed to obtain fundamental data to evaluate dimensions of tread and rise in regard to safety on stairs. A devised apparatus to give abrupt accelerations to a human standing posture on stairs was applied. Remarkable distinction of human balancing ability on different dimensions of tread and rise could not be found both in a young group or in an aged group. And then, gait movements on stairs in relation to stumbling, mis-footing etc. were experimentally analyzed. Some accidental factors, foot contact angles with tread etc., were closely correlated to dimensions of tread and rise. Many basic considerations could be obtained from these experiments.

    における両足接地時間比と積算膝屈折角度は歩行性の良い評価因子となり得た。両足接地時間比は, 2H+Bと良い相関を持ち, 極小値における値は経験値とほぼ一致し, 上り下りの差も経験値と一致した。積算屈折角度は蹴上げHと関連付けられ, その極小値で歩行性がよいと考えられる。しかし, 二つの因子はそれぞれ内容が異なり, 歩行不安定と姿勢拘束によるものとした。

    In this research, it was aimed at clarifying the influence that the difference of the basic component of stairs gave the evaluation of the stairs design objectively. The basic component of stairs was a plan, width, a handrail including the material, the constitution of the tread, a placement condition.
    Various stairs of 74 objects were selected. It performed an evaluation experiment by the photograph image after having paid off the basic component of stairs 11 to an items.
    It showed the tendency to evaluation and relations of the constitution with a multivariate analysis quantitatively, and showed an effective document at a design stage.

    When the power failure occurs because of terrorism, it becomes the pitch-dark dark in case of no nighttime, and moving cannot be taken in the close space. Then, the vertical evacuation experiment was conducted by using the photoluminescent stairs, and the effectiveness of the photoluminescent stairs was clarified in this research. The photoluminescent stairs improved the visibility when taking evacuation, was able to shorten the evacuation time when the stairs taking shelter.

    We performed the experiment of stumping by the bulldozer in mulberry field.
    The results were as follows.
    Points of advantage.
    1. The stumping efficiency of this method was about four times as much as that of tractor.
    2. The work accuracy of this method was better than any others. The volume of pulling roots of a stump was vast, and the remains of roots in the soil were very little by this method.
    3. By this method, the deep tillage and the stumping could be done at the same time. The depth of the tillage was about 60cm.
    Points of disadvantage.
    1. The cleaning of stumps were troublesome, for it was difficult to clean the stumps by only human hand. Implements such as hoe or reaping hook should be used to clean them.
    2. The bulldozer might be easily damaged, than other methods, because of the frequency of clutching and changeing gear.
