In this study, elementary school students attending a temporary school, set up at an evacuation site due to the Great East Japan Earthquake and associated nuclear accident (3.11), have “temporal and synchronous connections” with their roots in the area through media production activities. These connections clarify the process of transforming cognition.

The parties to the 3.11 evacuation are still seeking two “connections”: “inheriting the memory of the area” and “connecting with the people in the area”, and that desire is also directed at the children living at the evacuation site. On the other hand, the current child, who has no memory of 3.11, is not aware that he or she belongs to the same community as the 3.11 party, and others unilaterally imposing party membership may even be a stigma.

In order to overcome this dilemma, we hypothesize that it is important for children to recognize the “connections” between themselves and the community from their own perspective, and to go to a temporary school building set up by Tomioka Town in Fukushima Prefecture at the evacuation site. We practiced video production with fifth graders and qualitatively analyzed the statements in the practice using the qualitative data analysis method, SCAT.

As a result, the children who practiced were able to: highlight questions and unclear points, listen to the opinions of others based on them, self-interpret them,

them with their own experiences, and reflect on their own experiences and memories. It became clear that the representation was done by mixing it with the students’ own thoughts and ideas. This series of processes made it possible for students to find their positions in the history of Tomioka Town and the local community, that is, the process of media production practice changed the practitioner’s perception of “connections” with the community.

This paper elaborates the process of how media representation was formed around “Agricultural Communities” in Japan after the war, taking as its lead the NHK program, “Farm Programs.” Most existing studies have focused only on urban tourists' view of such communities rather than discussing the issue of representation as related to social issues like the declining acreage and depopulation that these communities have been coping with. Besides, these studies did not conduct any further analysis either of this representation or of the program's audience, which leaves untouched the question of how the representation was shaped or what kind of negotiation took place between the program's creators and their rural subjects. The present paper will elaborate on the above issues by focusing on NHK's local correspondents as mediators of communication between NHK's directors and Japan's rural society in order to illustrate new possibilities regarding the between Regional/Rural Sociology and Media Studies.

前編では、日本の録音放送が戦争の中で生まれ、戦争の中で発展してきた様を概観し、1941年5月に放送された『病院船』の録音構成としての完成度を分析した。後編ではまず、太平洋戦争開戦直後につくられた『香港攻略戦』を聴く。戦場に録音隊を派遣してつくる番組は前線録音と呼ばれていたが、『香港攻略戦』は、それまでの前線録音にはない、確かな「構成」を備えるものだった。日本軍が快進撃を続けていた時期、「構成」という方法の可能性は、未来に向けて無限に開かれているかに見えた。だが、戦時下の主題録音は、そのまま発展を続けていったのではない。やがてその輝きを失い、単純な宣伝番組に堕していったのである。

NHK放送文化研究所の調査から、学校現場ではデジタルメディアの利用が進む様子がみてとれるが、もうひとつの学習の場である家庭ではどのようなメディアを使って学習が行われているのか。2019年秋～冬、中学生の家庭学習におけるデジタルメディアの利用に焦点をあて、中学生とその母親を対象に行ったウェブ調査とデプスインタビュー調査の結果を報告する。 ウェブ調査では、家庭学習を行っている中学生のうち、その半数以上が家庭学習でデジタルメディアを利用していた。スマートフォン、タブレット端末、パソコンの利用が多く、英語（英単語の検索や音声教材など）、総合的な学習の時間や社会（いずれも検索サイトでの調べものや資料動画の閲覧）でよく利用されていた。ただ、家庭学習の教材としては、教科書や参考書などの紙媒体の利用の方が多かった。 また、家庭学習でデジタルメディアを利用している中学生は、利用していない中学生よりも、勉強へのやる気が高く、自分が理解できるように工夫していて成績も良いこと、母親がデジタルメディアを利用した学習を推奨している家庭の中学生は、消極的な家庭の中学生よりもやる気が高いことが示された。 デプスインタビュー調査では、自分専用のスマートフォンを所有する中学生の全員が、英単語の検索など、辞典や事典がわりにスマートフォンを学習で利用していた。また、元教師や塾の講師が説明する「授業動画」は、理解できるまで繰り返し視聴するなど、好評だった。 今回の調査は、新型コロナウイルス感染拡大に伴う一斉休校前に実施したが、デジタルメディアとの親和性が高いと推察されるウェブ調査の対象者においても、そのすべてが家庭学習でデジタルメディアを利用しているわけではなかった。新型コロナウイルスの影響でオンライン学習へのニーズが高まる中で、デジタル機器を所有していない家庭が存在することなどもふまえ、学習格差が拡大しない配慮が求められる。
