    We developed a simple and rapid single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) detection system named SMart Amplification Process (
    SMAP
    ).
    SMAP
    is an isothermal nucleic acid amplification method, which uses novel Aac DNA Polymerase isolated from Alicyclobacillus acidocaldarius. Aac DNA Polymerase is in particular suitable isothermal amplification processes having a strand displacement activity. Moreover, SMAP employs an asymmetrical primer design and uses Thermus aquaticus MutS (Taq MutS). Taq MutS is a mismatch binding protein providing a highly effective approach to achieving complete suppression of background amplification derived from mis-amplified DNA. Therefore DNA amplification only occurs with a perfect primer match, and amplification alone is sufficient to identify the target allele. These features of SMAP enable us to perform rapid and precise SNP detection assays. SMAP has immense potential for the development of medical diagnostic products, as for example, to rapidly detect EGFR or K-ras gene mutations at high accuracy.
    The development of molecular diagnostics along with an increasing knowledge about genomic information has caused a paradigm shift away from the standard protocol of medical care towards pharmacogenomics. This new field of medical science is based on the growing knowledge about genetic alterations and their relationship to specific phenotypes, such as disease predisposition, drug metabolism, and disease development. Due to its ability for high-throughput gene analysis and SNP detection, SMAP is certain to have significant impact in this field.

      In this study, the total materials requirement (TMR) to recycle chemical elements from the urban ore by recycling (urban ore TMR, UO-TMR) has been compared with the TMR to extract the element from the natural ore by smelting (natural ore TMR, NO-TMR) in order to evaluate the urban ore grade on an equal footing with the natural ore. A framework of UO-TMR based on the NO-TMR framework is developed. To validate the developed framework, the UO-TMR of a laptop PC is estimated assuming gold, silver, copper, iron, aluminum, tantalum and indium are recycled. It is found that the UO-TMRs for gold, silver, copper, iron, aluminum and tantalum are lower than NO-TMR, but that for indium is higher. The ratio of “urban tailings” is at most 60% of the total, which is smaller than that of NO-TMR “tailings”. In contrast to the contributions of energy and material inputs for the recycling process, the contribution of transportation is not very large. For the UO-TMR of indium, the contribution of materials for recycling process is extremely large. The availability and scalability of UO-TMR are also discussed.

      Total materials requirement (TMR) for the recycling of materials (Urban Ore TMR) from end-of-life electric home appliances (cathode ray tube TV, liquid crystal display TV, refrigerator, washing machine, air conditioner and microwave oven) have been estimated and evaluated. The estimation were carried out using scenario analyses, in which the number of recycled elements and/or materials was changed considering additional energy for advanced recycling. As the results of the estimation, the urban ore TMR of gold, silver, copper and stainless steel were lower than TMR when they are smelted from natural ore (natural ore TMR) for all the scenarios. The urban ore TMR for iron (steel), aluminum and die-casting aluminum were mainly affected by the dilution ratio using pure element for the recycling. The recyclability of the elements and materials are discussed from the view point of TMR.

    20世紀前半には土壌水分の挙動の物理過程の解明が重要視されだし,その後多くの土壌水分に関する研究成果が発表されてきた。一方,観測方法やデータ解析の高度化および不飽和水分移動の数値シミュレーション技術の発達と共に土壌水分研究の進歩に伴う地下水涵養機構の解明研究もより進展し,地域-地球スケールの地中水資源や干ばつ等の量的な評価および予測に結びつき,土壌水分と地下水涵養の研究の重要性が高まった。本稿は,陸域水循環の立場から不飽和帯の土壌水分に関する最新の注目すべき研究をいくつか取り上げ,点スケールでの土壌水分測定技術と広域の土壌水分観測・解析をオリジナルデータを交えて議論し,その現状と今後の方向性を論じた。

    now it is open to the public on our website. SMAP enables efficient image data processing for PSP/TSP surface pressure measurement with dark calibration, averaging, several smoothing options, manual/automatic marker detection, edge detection, image registration, image division, temperature
    calibration, pressure calibration, and surface pressure mapping to three-dimensional model. In this paper, some features of SMAP are introduced and wind tunnel tests of a reusable launch vehicle model in the large-scale. transonic/supersonic wind tunnel in ISAS/JAXA are demonstrated.

    ブログ,ニュース,スパムのキーワード時系列データにおいて,自己相関にもとづき,各情報源の周期的話題の分析を行った.そのため,独自で継続的に収集しているブログとニュースのデータを用いた.また,独自に開発したスパム分離手法により,収集したブログからスパムを分離し,スパムのデータとして用いた.これら時系列データの違いを調べるために,自己相関にもとづくキーワードの文書頻度の基本周期系列抽出アルゴリズムを開発した.このアルゴリズムを用いて周期の分布や,7日周期および365日周期のキーワードの抽出を行った.その結果,ブログは毎週のテレビ番組や週末の趣味や年中行事,ニュースは政府や経済,スパムはメルマガやアフィリエイトの話題が多いことが分かった.

    An environmental life cycle assessment (LCA) was applied to the treatment of inorganic waste water from a research institute by coagulation and flocculation. Three types of waste water was classified and treated in 2002. Global warming potential (GWP) resulting from their treatment was 782kg CO2-eq/m3 for waste water including fluoride, 150kg for the one including heavy metals and 19kg for scrubber waste water. They are greatly different from each other and also far larger than those for municipal waste water treatment that is around 0.2-2kg CO2-eq/m3.
    In order to understand the implications of these data, a relationship between the water quality and GWP from treatment of the water was derived from the records of this facility. The result indicated that most of the GWP exhaustion can be contributed to the reinforced reagents addition and resultant sludge production owing to the high concentration of fluoride, mercury and arsenic, besides some disadvantage by treating a little quantity, around five to thirty m3 per week. In particular, treating fluoride produces a large amount of sludge, whose combustion produces a large amount of carbon dioxide.
    Reagents production contributes most to global warming in treating waste water including heavy metals, while sludge treatment contributed most in treating fluoride or scrubber waste water. This difference was explained from the concentrations of three chemicals above using the relationship obtained here.

        What is food porn? What does it look like and why is a food image associated with pornography? Does the Japanese boom of "hae" (visually appealing) gourmet food and desserts equivalent to food porn? "Food porn" is a particular mode of representing food in which various techniques, such as contrasting colors, slow motion, close-ups, and framing, are used to exaggerate the food’s aesthetically pleasing aspect and affective impact on viewers. An image (a work or television program) that employs such techniques can also be referred to as food porn. After locating the topic within a larger theoretical framework of mediatization, this article explores the arguments of several well-known food porn research in the US and the UK. The launch of Food Network, a famous television station, in 1993 is considered by previous research as a significant backdrop for the industrialization of food porn. Chan (2003) uses the term "pornography" as a metaphor to describe typical plot lines and characters in food shows that are, in his view, similar to sexual porn. Kaufman (2006) extends Chan’s points by examining the shooting of a Food Network cooking show, audience demography, and the visual grammar of food programs parallel to sexual porn. McDonnell (2016) explains in detail the characteristics of the gaze constructed by, and the scheme of, food porn images. Ibrahim (2015) contextualizes the popularity of user-generated food images on SNS within everyday media practices. I agree with Ray (2007), who is suspicious of the use of sensational terms to critically analyze media representations of food. However, it is noteworthy that Japanese SNS users and cooking magazines employ in their food images the same visual techniques that are framed as food porn by McDonnell. Hypothetically, this might show that the typical way of portraying food in the Food Network shows has been disseminated so widely that it impacted people who do not directly watch their programs.

    From the view point of urban mine, Japan is one of the most abundant countries in resources, especially in scarce metals. In this study, the total materials requirements to recycle metallic materials and mixed-plastics from urban ores (urban ore TMR, UO-TMR) have been estimated and evaluated in comparison with the total materials requirements to smelt them from natural ores (natural ore TMR, NO-TMR). As the urban ores, mobile phone and laptop PC were selected. The estimation were carried out using scenario analyses, in which the number of recycled materials (gold, silver, copper, tantalum, indium, scrap steel, scrap aluminum and mixed-plastics) was changed considering additional energy and material inputs. As for the evaluation of recycled gold, silver, copper, tantalum and indium, which have almost the same qualities as the materials from natural ores, their UO-TMR were lower than respective NO-TMR, except for indium. In the case of scrap steel and scrap aluminum, which qualities are less than pure steel and aluminum from the natual ores, the trade-off between the increase in UO-TMR and the additional materials and energy inputs for increase in quality by dilution process or advanced disassembling-selection process was discussed by comparing with the NO-TMR.

    河川や小水路に配置する事を想定した多数の水質自動監視システムに適用する通信経路選定問題について,遺伝的アルゴリズムによる手法を提案し,その有効性を示した.対象となる測定機器は待機と起動の二状態を持ち,無線によってデータの送受信を行うと仮定する.この時,機器の起動から測定データ送信までの一連の処理を効率的に行うためには,処理全体にかかる時間を最小にするための最適な通信経路を選定する必要がある.これは単純な二点間の経路選定問題とは異なり,一般に多点対1点間の処理時間を最小にする経路選定問題となる.また,各監視システムは他から送られた起動要求を受信することで待機から起動状態へと移行し,その後別の機器へ起動要求メッセージを送信する.したがって,全体の処理時間は機器間距離に依存した無線通信の実効速度だけではなく,起動要求データを受け取って下位へ送信する回数,すなわち,ネットワークの階層数にも依存する.本論文では,総処理時間を決める各処理過程を三段階に分け,これをコスト関数として遺伝的アルゴリズムを本問題に適用した.計算には琵琶湖に流入する一級河川の位置データを用いて総時間を評価し,遺伝的アルゴリズムの有効性とその適用範囲を示した.

    The 1D multilayered physical snowpack model Snow Metamorphism and Albedo Process (SMAP), which was originally designed for climate studies, is now updated by incorporating a detailed water movement scheme, realistic snow settlement process and limitation for the Richardson number to ensure minimum turbulent exchanges even under highly stable atmospheric conditions. The evaluation of the updated version of SMAP was first performed using the data obtained at Sapporo, Japan, during the 2007-2009 winters and the effectiveness of these updates was demonstrated in terms of snow depth and snow surface temperature. However, we pointed out that the choice of maximum Richardson number should be further examined. To test the reliability of SMAP under different climate conditions, we applied it to Naga oka, Japan, during the 2011-2012 winter. At Nagaoka, we performed snow-soil-coupled simulations, because ground heat flux was not available during the study period. For this purpose, we developed a soil submodel for SMAP. Consequently, we confirmed that the updated version performed better than the old version in terms of mass balance simulations at Nagaoka too. Although mass balance-related parameters of the snowpack simulated by the updated version agreed well with observations during the accumulation period, the model substantially overestimated snow depth, as well as column-integrated snow water equivalent during the ablation period. By discussing the reasons for these discrepancies, we highlighted that further investigation on snow-melt processes for thick seasonal snowpack is necessary.

    This paper describes a spoken dialogue system for accommodating a user’s information behaviors with various levels of information need. Our system, given a set of same-topic news articles, compiles a utterance plan that consists of a primary plan for delivering main news content, and the associated subsidiary plans for supplementing the main content. A primary plan is generated by applying text summarization and style conversion techniques. The subsidiary plans are compiled by considering potential user/system interactions. To make this mechanism work, we first classified user’s possible passive/active behaviors, and then designed the corresponding system actions. We empirically confirmed that our system was able to deliver the news content smoothly while dynamically adapting to the change of user’s intention levels. The smoothness of a conversation can be attributed to the pre-compiled utterance plan.

    本稿は,集英社が刊行する雑誌『明星』の60余年の歩みを,①黎明期:大衆娯楽誌②黄金期:アイドル誌③転換期:「ジャニーズ」専門誌という三つに区分し紐解くものである.特に,70年代までに日本に到来した戦後の大衆社会と,80年代以降の雑誌の細分化に見られるその解体のプロセスを,一つの雑誌のなかで体現しているという意味において重要な媒体として『明星』を位置づけ論じる.
