The possibility of attenuation of microseismic waves due to the presence of an upward folding of the ocean bottom into the liquid is discussed in this paper. The upward folding of the ocean bottom has been idealized by means of an irregularity in the form of a rectangle intruding into the liquid and the evaluation of the displacement component at any point of the solid medium has been carried out in two stages. First, the change in the incident mode of the surface wave due to the presence of the rectangular irregularity has been determined, and second, the subsequent change of the resulting displacement components due to the termination of the liquid layer and the step change in elevation of the solid medium at the continental margin has been discovered. Finally, numerical calculation has been made to determine the attenuation of the microseismic waves of different periods due to the presence of the rectangular irregularity at the ocean bottom.

The structures of diphyllin (4), justicidin A (5) and taiwanin () were found to be incorrect and to have to be revised to structures (1), () and (), respectively, from the chemical and NMR spectral evidences. The benzhydrylsuccinic acid (20) was synthesized and converted, by a 8-step procedure as shown in Chart 1, to the Murakami-diphyllin (). The selective cyclization of (20) gave cis- and trans-4-(-bromo-4,5-dimethoxyphenyl)tetralone (28a,: R=H) as expected, while the cyclization of debromo derivative (19) of (20) gave predominantly a trans-4-(,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)tetralone (38), which was converted to a 1-hydroxy-,-naphthalide (4) by a similar -step procedure to () as shown in Chart . Compound () or (4) was found not to be identical with diphyllin. Consideration of the NMR spectra of aromatized ,-naphthalide lignans in which the 4-phenyl ring lies perpendicularly to the naphthalene ring and shields the lactone methylene in 1-hydroxy-,-naphthalide system (A) afforded an effective method to distinguish between systems (A) and () as shown in Table III. The lactone methylene of diphyllin, justicidin A or taiwanin is obviously not shielded. The syntheses of them were achieved by the procedure shown in Chart , and followed by identification with natural samples. All the hitherto known aromatized α-hydroxy-,-naphthalide lignans, such as diphyllin, justicidin A, taiwanin and dehydropodophyllotoxin, are now concluded to have 4-hydroxy-,-naphthalide system ().

Monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) specific to the -kDa coat protein (CP) of Broad bean wilt virus (BBWV-) were produced. The -kDa CP of the IA isolate expressed in

. coli was used to immunize mice and three independent hybridoma cell lines were screened. In western blot analyses, the MAbs (MAb-, MAb5-12A and MAb-A) reacted to the bacterially expressed -kDa CP of the IA isolate and most BBWV- isolates, but not to some other BBWV- isolates and other plant viruses. In immuno-electron microscopy, MAb- and MAb-A reacted with BBWV- particles to the 10^-5 dilution.

The effect of composition and controlled thermomechanical process parameters on the mechanical properties of HSLA steels is modelled using the Widrow-Hoff's concept of training a neural net with feed-forward topology by applying Rumelhart's back propagation type algorithm for supervised learning, using a Petri like net structure. The data used are from laboratory experiments as well as from the published literature. The results from the neural network are found to be consistent and in good agreement with the experimented results.

Horizontal plate anchors are widely used in civil engineering constructions to resist vertical pulling loads. The available theoretical model suggested by Vesic to estimate the breakout resistance of plate anchors is in significant error, particularly for dense sandy soils. A theoretical model assuming a curved surface of failure through the surrounding soil, to evaluate the ultimate breakout resistance of horizontal plate anchors, has been proposed. It successfully brings out the concept of characteristics relative depth beyond which the breakout factor reaches a constant final value. It is capable of predicting breakout factors for wide range of values of angle of shearing resistance of sand.

We compared three groups of pregnant women: placebo with normotensive women, group A which included preeclamptics, and group which comprised preeclamptics who were supplemented their diets with vitamins C and . MDA increased from . ± .8 (placebo) to 8.48 ± 1. (A) and 8.02 ± 1.8 nmol/gHb (). NO concentrations were enhanced from 19. ± 4. (P) to 23.8 ± .4 (A) and 24.1 ± 5.4 μmol/L (). GSH contents were decreased from 10.42 ± . (P) to 8.02 ± .92 (A) and .39 ± 1.02 μmol/g Hb (), whereas GSSG concentrations increased from 0.98 ± 0.28 (P) to 1.24 ± 0.29 (A) and 1.08 ± 0.12 μmol/g Hb (). SOD activity decreased 23% in A and 14% in ; GRx decreased 27% in A and 5.5% in ; GPx decreased 12% in A and .% in . Catalase activity, however, increased 27% in A and 29% in as compared to control. Thus, we conclude that the use of vitamins C and should be considered for the control of certain important biochemical indices during the development of preeclampsia; however, further studies are needed to develop methods for the prevention of preeclampsia in women at high risk.

Six full-length cDNAs encoding pig cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes, CYP1A1, CYPA19, CYP, CYPC33v4, CYPC49, and CYP1, were isolated and sequenced. The cDNA sequences of pig CYP1A1, CYPA19, CYP, CYPC49, and CYP1 showed high similarity to human CYP1A1 (85.4%), (88.%), (.1%), (85.%), and (82.5%), respectively, and pig cDNA showed high similarity to rat (79.%). Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assays revealed hepatic gene expression of all these pig CYP enzymes: the order of expression was and > > CYP1A1 and > . In the kidney, the gene was expressed at the same level as in the liver, but the CYP1A1, , and genes were expressed at lower levels than in the liver. Little renal gene expression of CYPC49 and CYP1 was observed. We revealed for the first time the full-length cDNA sequences encoding pig CYP1A1 and five CYP enzymes belonging to the gene family, thus making it possible to examine the gene expression levels of these CYP enzymes in pig tissues by RT-PCR.

Nine isoquinoline alkaloids belonging to the protoberberine, proaporphine and bisbenzyl-isoquinoline series were isolated from Caryomene olivascens (Menispermaceae). Four compounds are new : (-)--norlimacine (4), (-)-caryolivine (), (+)-1, -dehydro--norlimacusine () and N-formylstepharine (). The last one is the first N-formyl derivative to be reported in the proaporphine group. Its biogenetic origin is discussed. Structures were established on the basis of 360 MHz (FT) nuclear magnetic resonance measurements and also by chemical correlation in the case of .

[1] The purpose of this reserch is to make clear what type of design can give good effects to win the high readership score. At the begining I had to know what factors decide the readership score, and how to change the quality of the desing into numerical value. I have used the method of multi-dimentional analysis with the help of a computer, and got the estimation formula, with 7 kinds of factors, as follows ; A^^〜=+C+D+K++bF+cG. A^^〜=estimated values of the readership score. 1) , C, D, K : these four factors are given as category values (so we call them); each factor is classified into several categories. =week day, classified into 7 categories. C=pages of a newspaper, which are characterized by the kinds of articles, news, and the other reading matters, classified into categories. D=kinds of goods and trades of the advertizement, classified into 14 catedories. K=constants, given to each 13 surveys. ) , F, G : these factors are given as numerical values. G=area of advertizement, measured by the unit of column in the whole page length, being classified into kinds of area (.5, .5, 5, 7, 10, 15) and 15 column means a whole page, about ,000cm^. , F are the marks obtained in the design of advertizements. =sum of the marks obtained in each design element on the advertizement. Brassinolide analogues, (R, 23R, 24R)-, , , 23-tetrahydroxy--homo-7-oxa-5α-ergostan--one (24-epibrassinolide) (10) and (S, 23S, 24R)-, , , 23-tetrahydroxy--homo-7-oxa-5α-ergostan--one (), were synthesized from brassicasterol (a) in five steps and with ca. 20% overall yield. The key steps are the direct formation of (, 24R)-, 5-cyclo-5α-ergost--en--one (4) from brassicasterol mesylate (), the acid-catalyzed rearrangement of 4 to (, 24R)-5α-ergosta-, -dien--one (), and the Baeyer-Villiger oxidation of the tetrahydroxy 5α-ergostan--ones 7 and 8.

This study aimed to determine the prevalence of fecal carriage of extended spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) and/or plasmidic AmpC β-lactamase (pAmpC) producing Escherichia coli among dogs (n=428) in Turkey. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and sequencing were used to characterize genes encoding β-lactamase and plasmid mediated quinolone resistance (PMQR).
