12 years have passed since the commencement of international LCC operations to and from Japan. The capacity share of LCC's has reached 26.9% in total international air seats in 2019.
The market demand for international travel has been unstable under the current turbulent circumstances affected by the recent political and economic events with neighboring countries. To overcome this vulnerable situation, alternative travel destinations should be established from the business risk management point of view. The author focuses on the Japan-Taiwan route as the first-choice alternative tourist destination. This paper reviews the current situation of Japan's LCC international routes in terms of seating capacity and examines the development of regional airports.
The author identified possible opportunities of increased air-seat procurement to Taiwan, despite the current high load factor of the Japan-Taiwan air route performance.
