The economic miracle in China during the past three decades can be attributed to the emerging, development, and prosperity of SMEs. The research will first identify the diversity of the definition of SMEs in different regional economic systems. And then, the true main factors behind the development and contribution of SMEs will be deeply discussed. The last part will focus on the bottlenecks constraining the development of SMEs. Prospects about the future development of Chinese SMEs will also be proposed.
