The Bamboo-Plywood Chair [SDB001]

Abstract

In response to a current environmental issues represented by global warming, it is inevitable to search for a potential role of design in a sustainable society. I have found my answer within a bamboo; a material so familiar to us Japanese. Using a bamboo in modern design not as a simple replacementmaterial but incorporating its characteristics such as flexibility and ability to bent into a modern day design. I designed this chair which have transformed their presence from a conventional solid structure to a new flexible structure which gains its flexibility by releasing the force with its swaying power.
