The Yami people generally make effort to reconstruct and expand the main house during their lifetime. The type and name of main house vary with number of entrance. This report attempts to elucidate the composition of space and its meaning through analysis of each types of the main house. We can see that the main post "tomok" and the hearth for flying fish are isolated from daily life space with expantion of the main house, and it is related to two orders of space, called "teylaod (sea direction)-teyrala (mountain direction)" and "sarey (male side)- sekez (female side)".
