The aim of this paper is to clarify the bipolarity in halls at monasteries in mediaeval England by focusing on monk's life, traffic line and the seating order with cases of 2 Clunic priories, Lewes Priory and Castle Acre Priory, contrasting Cluny Piory that had direct relation with these priories. Halls for eating were very important places in monasteries. In monastic daily life, monks followed the order in seniority as provided in the St. Benedictin rule. All monks gathered at the choir and the chapter house, and seated following the order in seniority, and moved to the refectory in line. In the refectory, the abbot sat at the east end with important guests and monks sat in seniority. The bipolarity, upper end and lower end, was seen in halls not only at these priories but also many monasteries in mediaeval England.
