This article examines and considered previous studies on the spread of mechanical sawmills in the prewar period. The following points are clarified.
It can be confirmed that the band saw had been installed since the latter half of the Meiji era, but the regional bias was remarkable, and the spread of band saws were remarkable nationwide after the Great Kanto Earthquake. The background to the spread was the spread of electrical facilities as a power source, the introduction of a large amount of foreign materials, and the commercialization of cheap domestic models.
