The purpose of this paper is to examine the process where sugar companies in Taiwan fell to the surrounding farmlands under their control.
In Hozan prefecture, one private sugar company bought the farmland itself. Moreover, the Government-General of Taiwan had bought the farmland in a lump sum and sold it to the sugar company.
In Ako prefecture, the Government-General helped to cultivate the land by its sugar industrial policy and introduced the restricted zone system for raw material collection.
In Banshoryo prefecture, the Government-General used both the same system and the disposal of its government land to one sugar company.
