The purpose of this paper is to examine the transformation process of area developers related to the sugar industry in Taiwan between the 1900s and 1910s using the zone change-over for the sugar industry association and the restricted zone for sugar cane collection.
At first, farmlands in Tainan area were cultivated by Taiwanese capitalists who originated during the Qing dynasty and lived in Tainan. Next, the various Taiwanese capitalists who lived in local area developed the Tainan area. At last, Japanese important capitalists came to Tainan to develop this area.
