What is important to architect is to know and identify how the intended performance is realized in actual buildings. Therefore, it is necessary to understand various phenomena which occur on external walls of an actual buildings. It is also necessary to establish criteria by which the grade of these phenomena can be simply evaluated. In the course of this research, we developed evaluation criteria for the major phenomena occurring on external walls. Using these criteria, we inspected the external walls of 30 telephone offices of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation. In this paper, we show these criteria and the results of categolized total. We also added some considerations about these phenomena, but detailed analysis and actual examples of these phenomena are to be shown in the continued reports.
