We observe some expressions about social status in the house design of newly-built Japanese farmhouses. This study analizes how these expressions are classified in terms of social status. We selected typical six villages in Kinki region, and collected newly-built farmhouse plan and design details of roofs, entrance halls, and interior of zashiki (Japanese style guest room). Plans are classified into four types, middle corridor type, four tatami rooms type, three tatami rooms type, and two tatami rooms type based on the former tanoji-plan. We recognized clear difference on farmhouse design refering to the expression of social status among four types of house plans.
