The purpose of this study is to clarify the conditions of housing owned by the households including persons aged 65 and over, using the data of 1988 Housing survey of Japan. The summary of the results is as follows: 1) The ratio of households with aged persons is higher in owner-occupied housing than in rented housing. The ratio is also influenced by such factors as the year of construction and the size of housing. 2) Households with aged persons tend to live in their housing continuously for a long time. This tendency is shown more clearly in detached houses than in apartment houses. 3) Living condition of households with aged persons are different by their family members. While many households which consist of aged persons and their children live in relatively crowded conditions, a considerable number of households consisting of aged persons living by themselves are undercrowded.
