The connection strengths between the beam tension flange and rectangular hollow section (RHS) column are analyzed by the yield line theory, classifying into three categories, that is (i)the yielding of the beam flange is expected in advance of the.connect ion, (ii)the yielding of the beam flange is expected after the connection, and (iii)the failure of the connection is expected in advance of the yielding of the beam flange. The composite beam-and-RHS .column subassemblages whose connection strengths were of the above three categories were tested. The connection strengths of the subassemblages are analyzed by the yield line theory, giving good correspondence with the test results. And the effect of the moment-local rotational angle of the connection on the stiffness and deformation capacity of the subassemblabes are discussed.
